INDY is a women-led, affordable, fashion-forward eyewear brand based in Brooklyn, NY. Designer and founder, Indie McFarlane, who grew up in Scotland, had a huge passion for sunglasses, leading her to launch INDY (a play on her name) from her bedroom floor, using her pay checks from her bar jobs to invest into her start-up.
Indie then moved the brand over to New York at the age of 22. Indie has always said how confident sunglasses make her feel, so she wanted to share that confidence with others through her own designs.
INDY quickly became well known for its vintage-inspired affordable eyewear with modern twists, including colorful transparent lenses, exaggerated shapes and snappy wording on frames. 90% of INDY's designs are made from biodegradable acetate when most sunglasses in the industry are made with plastic. Biodegradable acetate is a material derived from renewable resources such as wood pulp or cotton fiber. If the sunglasses are disposed of in a landfill or natural environments, they will eventually decompose into non-toxic components. And the other 10% of the collection is made from recycled plastic - if the sunglasses are lower in cost, those are the ones made from recycled plastic.
The brand has been seen in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Nylon, Vice, Popsugar, WWD, among others and has been worn by celebs fans including Bella Hadid, Alicia Keys, Alix Earle, Bretman Rock, and more.
"Between the celebrity sightings and magazine placements, Brooklyn-based Indy eyewear may seem like a huge operation. It's actually a one-woman show by designer Indie McFarlane, who channels New York City's bustling energy into sunglasses anyone, anywhere will want to wear." - Harper's Bazaar
